Fundraising Activities/Volunteering

Updated Friday February 3, 2017 by Skate Canada Shelburne.

Our goal is to keep our registration costs to a minimum, but as a non-profit organization, we still have to have our operating costs paid for each year. We have to pay for ice time, coaches fees for CanSkate, Skate Canada fees, as well as supplies for our events each year.

We know that between sports, school, and community groups, there are many fundraising efforts competing for parents' time and money- but we strive to find fundraising ideas that are different and affordable.

To encourage skating families to assist with our fundraising events, we ask them to provide us with a Volunteer Bond Cheque in the amount of $100.00. We ask that each family volunteer a minimum 8 hours total during the season. (Family members can include parents, grandparents, elder siblings*, other relatives, and even friends.)  We try to break up our events into manageable 4 hour blocks. For example, chaperoning a Party Rockers dance is worth 4 hours. Ways that each family can fulfill these hours include volunteering at a dance, at Carnival, with poinsettia sales, and so on (see the Events list below). Once you have completed your 8 hours, your cheque is returned to you. If you do not complete all 8 hours by the last Party Rockers dance in June, we cash your cheque.

*For high school students, hours can be credited towards their required volunteer hours for graduation.
